The OpusAtlas YAP Application Bootcamp

Our first month at the blog, and we’re diving right in!

June. School's out for summer. You may only have one more year until you're thrust cruelly out of the comfort of academia and into the unpredictable world of professional singing. If you and your teacher have determined that it's time to take your training as a singer to the next level, you may have heard that your next step is a YAP — but do you know what that means? How to get into one? Which ones to apply to, and what each expects of and offers its artists?

On Monday, I'll break down YAPs by their various features, but the process of applying for YAPs is our primary focus here all summer long. Over the next three months, we'll cover YAPs generally, the application process, how to research and strategically choose which YAPs to apply to, your application and audition assets (résumé, recordings, head shots, bios, and references), and we'll start to take a look at your web presence (website, YouTube/Vimeo, Facebook, Twitter). And by September, we'll try to have you prepared to hit YAPplication season running!

Posts in our series:

1. YAP Overview
2. YAP List
3. Research
4. Application Process
5. Résumés

These coming months are also a great time to get your (YAP-specific or otherwise) questions answered in our monthly Mail Bag, so send us your questions!
